Having been part of the hotel and restaurant industry in Canada for over three decades, we wanted to bring our passion for food and hospitality to Zanzibar. Starting in 2011, we sought to create a restaurant that provided amazing food in a stunning location. With the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean and the white sands of Kendwa Beach at out doorstep, we wanted to give our guests an unforgettable Zanzibari experience.

Taking inspiration from the rich history and diversity of the region, we created dishes that showcase various cuisines from around the world. We saw the diversity in our guests and thoughtfully created a menu that everyone could enjoy. At Essence, there is something for everyone – spicy curries from India, Italian pizzas, local Zanzibari delicacies, or a simple hamburger and fries. We are also proud to use local, organic ingredients and spices that are healthy for our clients.

Our goal at Essence Restaurant remains the same as always – to provide our guests with amazing food and excellent service on the best beach in Zanzibar.
